Shouty Shouty Shake

Shouty Shouty Shake

I don’t know much about Gang Gang Dance except that they’re from New York, and that’s already too much. I just want to go to the show and have it be a complete surprise. (Umm, too bad they just played SF.)
They’ve made a fine album in Saint Dymphna — it’s impossible for me to pick [...]

You Look Reeeeeeeeal Funny

You Look Reeeeeeeeal Funny

Ssion (pronounced shun) have been on my to-check-out list all year, but it wasn’t until Mrs. H slipped me this remix that I finally got some in my ears.
Ever finally find out about a band and then really regret not having done so earlier? Like, maybe two months ago, when they brought their insane-ass flamblistic [...]

Solely In My Chest Is My Heart, A Drum Of Water

Solely In My Chest Is My Heart, A Drum Of Water

I’ve waxed about brotherly harmonies before, but let us not forget harmonies of sisters, from McGarrigle to Andrews, all the way back to Biblical times, when Ruth did a few numbers with her forgettable sister.
Hey, go see these guys open for M83 at the Fillmore and let me know how it was!
School Of Seven Bells [...]

I Don't Mind If It's The Cold And Sadistic You Like

I know you know I loves me some Annie. So when I find out that the release of her new album is being pushed back to Spring 2009, am I bummed?
NO WAY, man. Because she told me herself (on her MySpace blog) that she delayed it because she came up with some awesome new songs [...]

This Place Is Amazing

This Place Is Amazing

Today is the day I finally relax my grip on warm days and give over to the increasing chill.
No, tomorrow.

How’d You Get To Be Happiness?

How'd You Get To Be Happiness?

Those words wafted across the crowd Saturday at the Treasure Island Music Festival, and while they are not from the song I’m posting, they descibe my experience this weekend much better than “nasal douche.”
As you can see from this right-on photo (taken Saturday by Paige K. Parsons), the TIMF was windy and wondrous.
I got a [...]

It Makes My Past And Future Painfully Clear

It Makes My Past And Future Painfully Clear

Isn’t this the way it always goes? There’s some kind of music you think you’ve got a handle on, you know what it’s about, you appreciate it. Then all of a sudden there’s this rush of interest in it in the world, and you’re like what? James Murphy is totally into 70s disco? So you [...]

Go Again!

Go Again!

Today you’re gonna get a chance to hear a remix while the original’s still fresh in your head.
I recently heard a wunnerful mix by Tittsworth (yes, that’s his real name) that included his own remix of Sub Focus’s “X-Ray,” which was last Thursday’s Veg. He gave it a sweet party-time Baltimore beat and some niiice [...]

Go.

Go.

OK, so maybe I have a different opinion of what kind of song constitutes a pick-me-up treat.
I think I’ll have fewer disagreements with today’s Veg. Shaking it off by dancing like a crazy person to a ravey slammer of a DnB choon is a reasonably universal activity.
Right?
