Large hugs and free ice cream for The Very Best, who brought their celebratory freakout to the Independent last night. The DJ + singer + hype man setup doesn’t always bode well for a good time, but these guys rocked it. Oh, and DANCERS. Two that were brought by the band and many in the crowd, who brought ourselves. Very necessary.
And not only were The Very Best handing out good vibes, they were handing out free beer, wine, and good news: they’ve got another mixtape coming out.
Their original album, Warm Heart Of Africa, was pretty great, but their first release, a self-titled mixtape, was one of the best jams of 2008 (and the following two years, for that matter), so I’m pretty stoked to hear them taking yet more of other folks’ songs and making them warmer and the very bester.

Love the Very Best. Happy to see they’ve got some new tracks for their show at Dour Festival Belgium.
A festival is a fantastic setting for them. Wish I could be there!
