Live shows are the best place to hear a cover — usually you don’t see it coming, and the concert changes from an audience watching a band to a communal celebration of someone else’s music.
I don’t think I saw a better celebration of rock than last year’s Japandroids show at the Hemlock, so when they busted out with a Big Black cover, I was pretty much over the moon, and I didn’t realize until just now that the members of Japandroids and the song “Racer X” are just about the same age.
