Art Brut has such a particular sound that one wouldn’t necessarily assume they would adapt well to covering others’ songs. One learned otherwise on their last tour:
Art Brut: “The KKK Took My Baby Away” (Schuba’s, Chicago 6/8/09)
…so you say, “Sure, the Ramones. That fits OK. But what else could they do?”
Splabam.

… and hey! ho!
As long as we on the subjeck, Eddie Argos has a new band (with Dylan Valdes from The Blood Arm) called Everybody Was In The French Resistance … Now!, whose mission is “correcting the mistakes of records past.” Here are a few tracks, as listed in their Communiqué:
10. My Way (Is Not Always the Best Way)
Response to “My Way” made famous by Frank Sinatra
Paul Anka admires a selfish man’s death-bed declaration that living his life according to his own convictions and desires alone is enough. Everybody Was In The French Resistance … Now! think that one should take others’ opinions into consideration.
8. He’s a “Rebel”
Response to “He’s A Rebel” made famous by the Crystals
The Crystals sang a love song to “dangerous” men. Everybody Was In The French Resistance … Now! opened up the conversation to other men, who see through the “rebel” schtick and argue that it’s all just an act.
and my favorite:
6. Think Twice (It’s Not Alright)
They also go out of their way to let you know that “unlike U2, they actually recorded their album in Joshua Tree (and didn’t just get their photograph taken next to one).”
Love it. Here’s their response to Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend” (“which teach[es] young women that they can derive more worth and status from stealing each others’ boyfriends than they can from realizing their own achievements”):
Everybody Was In The French Resistance … Now!: “G.I.R.L.F.R.E.N. (You Know I’ve Got A)”
Everybody Was In The French Resistance … Now!’s album Fixin’ The Charts, Vol. 1 is available for download now, and comes out physically Feb. 16 on Cooking Vinyl.
