SF’s Citay knows how and they don’t mind sharing. They’ve got that extry-Californy vibe that makes you kinda stare off into space and see yourself rambling along the coastal hills with your best friends while the sun refracts like the Star of Bethlehem.
Then they throw down the soaring twin-guitar leads and you say, “Oh shit! Not enough twin-guitar leads in my life!”
Their brand-new album Dream Get Together is out Jan. 26 on Dead Oceans — its title was inspired by those late-night conversations that music heads get into about fantasy collaborations. They’ve invited artists to contribute their own fantasies, so head to the Citay website for dream get-togethers from the likes of Akron/Family, The Antlers, and Jens Lekman (Beethoven running into Kool & The Gang doing “Ladies Night,” anyone?).
I caught them opening for Akron/Family last year, and really enjoyed seeing the guitarists break into smiles because they knew they were making it sound just right. You can catch them at Slim’s on Jan. 29 and the fabulous Brookdale Lodge on Feb. 27.
