Gwar by Cathy Leamy

from a minicomic by Cathy Leamy (metrokitty.com)

I don’t know how many people would have picked Gwar to be around for twenty-five years and eleven studio albums, but (to paraphrase Oderus Urungus) I, for one, are really glad that they’re still among us.

Their most recent album is Lust In Space (Metal Blade), but for my money it’s hard to beat the early stuff:

Gwar – The Salaminzer (Gwar’s answer to N.W.A.’s “Gangsta Gangsta,” from the flawless Scumdogs Of The Universe)

…and as a bonus, one with our beloved Sexecutioner (favorite of Baby Vegetables) on vocals. Singing “It’s time to trash the planet” is pretty much all I do these days.

… and won’t you please consider hosting Gwar on your talk show? I’ve posted this before, but it bears repeated viewings. Gwar on The Joan Rivers Show:

… and plus also, a more recent appearance on Fox News. I could watch those shifty eyes all day. I think I will.

Hands down, todays title is my favorite line from any of GWAR’s songs and one of the few llines from any song that I remember from the early nineties – it always makes me smile when i think of it. Now I just need to find my old vhs of “Live from Antartica”…not that I have any of electronic equipment that can even play it these days….

I couldn’t stop laughing the first time I heard it, and 19 years later it still works like a charm. (Although my current favorite is Sexecutioner saying “Give-a to me the genital warts.”)

The one that sticks with me is, “Your greasy poot distorts the truth.” Beefcake was always the most insightful.

Man, Pain Teens and then Gwar? Have I died and gone to heaven?

I often paraphrase Craig Finn and say, “I survived the 90s one time already, and I don’t recall them all that fondly,” but there are always exceptions!

PS: Bliss Blood plays the ukulele now.
