Yesterday saw the digital release of Animal Collective’s Fall Be Kind EP (it’s out Dec. 14 on CD & vinyl), and, to quote St. Eddie, “SWEET JEE-SUS.”
This makes two 100% top-notch releases for the boys in 2009, and I’d be jealous if I wasn’t busy being blown away. There’s always been something about the way they sing about the everyday (squeaking air-conditioning, family life, one’s cereal getting warm) amidst those layers of brain-expanding music … this go-round, I was most struck by Avey Tare’s take on road life in “On A Highway.” But the star of the show is “What Would I Want? Sky,” which is sure to make a late entry to a lot of best-of-the-year mixes:
