I promised last week, so I’m happily following through this week:
AGONY COLUMN WAS THE BEST. A hellbilly death-metal onslaught straight outta Texas, they never got their due, but they put out two flawless albums – God, Guns & Guts in 1990 and Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles in 1991. (Their 1994 release Way Back In The Woods is seriously hard to track down, but I hear it’s pretty good.)
Fiendish plots, diabolical minds, 4x4s, and a hole to Hell. Devil Chicken, Bat Lord, Red Wing Viper, shit yeah!
Agony Column had a varied sound, more varied than the songs I’m posting today, but these two are my faves and I had a hard time whittling it down to two.
So, listen, dig, dig em up!
Agony Column – Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles from Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles
Agony Column – Snakebite from God, Guns & Guts
…and here’s Ultraviolent Rays (shit, yeah!)

Agony Column seriously fuckin rocked. I lived in Austin in the 80s and went to pretty much ever show of theirs I could. I think your release dates are wrong though because the original vinyls of the first two albums would have been in the 80s. Track down Way Back In The Woods if you can. Its pretty different than the first two but still really worth owning.
I wouldn’t be surprised if my dates are off — I’m going by the Allmusic Guide, which sometimes misses early pressings.
I’m jealous that you got to see them so many times! Out here in Northern California I only got two chances. They were a great, special band.
Just caught their reunion show last night at Texas Shamrockfest. They were pretty darn good. I caught “Snakebite” on video… if you weren’t there… enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXcGNPQgL6w
Reunion? Holy shit!
Thanks so much for this!
