Champion of the banjo and preacher of the Good News of music Danny Barnes has a new record out on ATO Records called Pizza Box. Stream it all here, then go to dannybarnes.com to download “Caveman” for free.
And while you’re at it, read what this man has to say! He’s incredibly warm and astute, knows tons and tons of stuff about music and making a living as a musician, and he’s been freely sharing his knowledge on dannybarnes.com since before you knew there was an internet.
…and you mighta heard Danny’s old band the Bad Livers are back playing shows, here and there, and damn if they don’t still sound phenomenal. It’s pretty intense to hear Mr. Barnes, who has never stopped working seriously at learning and developing, lay
down his crazy advanced skills on top of these classic songs. The Internet Archive has a great soundboard recording of them playing in Oregon this past July. I had forgotten how much Mark Rubin enjoys talking into a microphone, God bless ’im.
Can’t pick one from the show, so here’s three. Go get mp3, flac, or ogg versions at the Archive.
Ghost Train — notable for its post-song update on how my beloved Devil Chicken, vocalist for legendary Texas metal band Agony Column (why haven’t I posted them yet? I’ll fix that next week) is doing. I think this is the first time I’ve ever heard the words “Devil Chicken” come out of anybody’s mouth but mine.
… and I can’t stop. They were/are so good!
Fom 1992: “Shit Creek” & “Uncle Lucius”

Thank you, Kevin! I love you, too.
Dakota, however, is going to be mad at you, since I sat here listening to Bad Livers for too long and now I’m late to pick her up.
She likes pink, purple, and My Little Pony.
