Today’s Vegetable:
Message From This Love Gun

by Kevin Vegetables on October 21, 2009

Dudley PerkinsI was reminded this past weekend how much I love hip-hop. It’s harder to find stuff I like these days, but it’s always out there.  Saturday at the Treasure Island Music Festival featured locals Crown City Rockers and LA’s Murs, both of whom were fantastic (and will be getting some love here very soon).

But so far this year, the hip-hop album that’s won my heart is Dudley Perkins’ Holy Smokes. Honest to God, pepples, I had just been wondering where the funk went when I picked up this album. And there it is. Plus:

  1. His aura’s positive and he doesn’t promote no junk
  2. He lives about as close to outer space as you can get on this Earth
  3. He’s vehemently anti-war

Love!

It’s hard to find a front-to-back winner in hip-hop these days, but Holy Smokes has got it.

Can’t talk about Holy Smokes without mentioning “E&R,” in which Dudley calls for the exposure and removal of phoneys and worse. But anybody can call out other MCs — it takes a Perkins to call out the Queen of England, pediaphiles [sic], toxic waste, and Oprah Winfrey.

(the first few seconds aren’t part of the song, just something tagged on by the original poster)
