Passion Pit (by Chrissy Piper)New favorite band alert!

Last week I was puttering about the house with the ol’ DirecTV/XM/Sirius music thingy tuned into XMU (because I like “college” music). I got to enjoy the commercial-free mostly-good music for about three songs before there was an ad for some band called Passion Pit that was coming in to host a show on that channel.

I don’t know if they were coming in to host one show or fifty, but I had to listen to the same gol-grobbin ad every two or three songs until I gave up and put on a Jimmie Rodgers album instead. I made a mental note to prepare myself for some sort of summerlong major-label-approved-“indie”-band marketing assault. Soon after that day I heard my first “(Passion Pit remix)”  of a song. It sounded pretty good, but those remix parentheses are mostly just a billboard these days.

Then I don’t know what happened. Maybe I blacked out. Then I think I read something really positive about Passion Pit, and I realized that for good or bad, Passion Pit was going to be around and I should at least listen to them once.

So OK really great!
Sunny high singing! Kids’ choir! Exactly what I need right now! (And for the record, they are on Frenchkiss Records, the wunnerful independent label what brought us The Dodos & The Hold Steady.)

The super possibly hidden bonus here is Michael Angelakos (lead singer/songwriter) is a creatively ambitious fella (who wants to be “the next Randy Newman”), so this is all just the beginning. Hop on, pepples!

Passion Pit, I apologize for judging you without listening. I hope I’ve made it up to you by telling everybody you’re awesome. Also, I’ll smile at you when you come to town.
