After yesterday’s explosion of activity, I need to bring it down a little and get back to basics, which today feels like it could only mean Jimmie Rodgers or Hank Williams.
I’m chagrined to say neither fella has had a Vegetable yet, so let me attend to that right now.
Hey, everybody knows where Hank stands in the scheme of things, but only Lyle Lovett and Leonard Cohen have been able to accurately represent it in words, and that’s too much competition for me. So I’ll just recognize Hank’s wisdom in re: the necessity of a good leanin’ post.
I’ll also ask, “Is there anything sadder than a man who tries to kill himself by jumping in a river, but the river turns out to be dry?”

If the Decemberists had played this at the show I attended, I would have burst into tears and leapt off the balcony.
So I’m glad they didn’t play it. But only kind of.
