Tom T. Hall, peoples!
Like many younguns of the 1970s, I got my first dose of Kentucky boy Tom T. Hall via his 1974 LP Songs Of Fox Hollow. Even folks who never heard that album (and its tales of sneaky snakes and one-legged chickens) are familiar with the super-surple-y “I Love” (which, for all people hold against it, still should be lauded for telling kids how wonderful bourbon is).
But Hall was a mighty, mighty songwriter for grownups as well. “Homecoming” … “I Miss A Lot Of Trains” … “Harper Valley PTA,” peoples!!!
Today’s Vedge is a classic of the “miserable man looking for the woman who left him” theme. I was fortunate enough to hear the Avett Brothers take a crack at it Saturday night at the Fillmore (what, you thought I could go a week without mentioning the Avett Brothers?).

and, you know — while we’re at it, why not stream a sneaky snake?

Hey, did somebody just say “Avett Brothers cover songs”? Here’s Scott Avett playing “Greensboro Woman,” a Townes Van Zandt song the Avetts played last time they came through.
