Well damn, y’all, you think I’m gonna post a track by an angry Australian band and then not go on a Boys Next Door/Birthday Party jag? They were only the GREATEST ROCK BAND OF ALL TIME.
When I’m 80 years old (which feels like it will be soon), I’ll hear the astounded voices of youths on the street saying, “What? You mean Nick Cave and Rowland S. Howard were in a band together?”
My main woman Ren-Dezzert-Dizzle must have been on the same jag, cuz she sent me this video of the wicked young Cave & Howard et al. performing “Shivers” from the first Boys Next Door album Door, Door:
ohhh, my time machine is almost built!
Anyways, so that’s 1979, right? And so then here’s 1980. You can hear the greasy slope the band has just found and understand why they would soon realize they becoming a sort of different band and change their name. (This album was originally a Boys Next Door album but was re-released in 1982 under the Birthday Party name.)

Who knew they had video cameras in 1978?

save a seat for ren-dezzert-dogg-dizzle in that time machine, Mr.Veg. i’m a comin with you! Sir Cave deserves our loyalty.
this narcissistic little ditty was covered in Dogs In Space by Mary Hoy & Friends. the imposters did a good job of it live and then you get to see a bonus video clip of the ORIGINAL Boys Next Door version in the film too. i wept. i’m weeping still.
Mmmm… I haven’t seen Dogs In Space since my Michael Hutchence-obsessed friend took me to it when it came out. Top of the queue!
Ack! Not on DVD in the US!
It is on P2P, though…
