It’s a big, beautiful world, and even though you try your darnedest to soak up as much beauty as there is, there’s still going to be some band from Australia that you didn’t even know about but has like five albums already, and you know what? Hella good, that’s what.
I may be a depressed hippie, but I’m still a hippie, and so I haven’t been listening to nearly as much relentlessly angry and bleak music as I did back in my pre-hippie days when bleakness was only a concept. So it takes a special talent to be so damn good at being miserable and angry that I’ll listen on repeat.
Beautiful, dark, and literate without pretense, listening to The Drones is like sort of like reading Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian, only without the corpses of babies hanging from a tree. (I think. I haven’t heard all their albums yet.)

Here’s another little uptempo number. For me, the mental image of a fever-dream minotaur sitting around watching porn and playing fucking Halo 2 pretty much sums up either my worldview or my history. Haven’t figured out which.
AND HEY GUESS WHAT ELSE?
The awesome people at RCRD LBL are letting you get a taste of the quieter side of The Drones — here’s the closer from Havilah (click that lil’ ol’ arrow to download):
