As long as we’re in the early 70s, I’m gonna slip back two years to 1971.
This one goes out with two shout-out proppas:
Number one to my main man Neg Segga for telling me, “You should look into this compilation called Eccentric Soul.”
Numero dos to the Numero Group, the folks behind not only the Eccentric Soul series (13 albums, 6 45s, and a live revue if I count correctly) but a glorious host of well-researched reissues of music that mattered and might otherwise have been lost. Soul galore, but so much more! (In their words, “The library to date is a mix of thrift shop soul, skinny tie pop, Belizean funk, and hillbilly gospel.”)
And of course, a surprise extra third prop on this two-prop plane goes to the artist himself, Marion Black. He was awesome, and now everybody knows it.
