Conway had too much success in the ’70’s so it’s not as if he’s going to be long-lost-and-now-rediscovered singer. He hasn’t been dead long enough (25+ years) for the “late, great” type of comeback either.
And would the folks who voted in Obama watch the YouTube video of Conway and Loretta? The twenties/mid-thirties hipsters I work with would think it’s a scene from “Walk The Line.” I kid you not.
That’s a good point, Tony. It is a little early for a renaissance.
I guess what I’m referring to is not that he’d be forgotten by true believers, but that he might be overlooked by folks (like the skinny-pants set with whom you work) who dabble in country music and would like him if they give him a chance.
Personally, I blame the 1970s. It’s easy for a kid to learn to love a Man in Black, but a Man in a Salmon Leisure Suit takes some getting used to.

Tony was responding to my fear that people are forgetting about how great Conway Twitty was.
He was reassuring me that Conway Twitty was “too popular to be forgotten” (not just “too popular”).
And as far as “late, great” — I’m sure all of us here can agree on that. Tony was just saying that there’s usually a big revival of interest in an artist 25 years after his passing. Of course, for us here, the interest never dies. Long live Conway!
