They Made Haste In The Brown Sedan

I had this one song I was saving up for Friday, but I guess it’ll have to wait until next Friday because I just have not been able to get “The Glamorous Life” out of my head, and who would want that anyway?

“The Glamorous Life” sounds just like a Prince song and was produced by Prince, but Sheila E. has sole songwriting credit. (So if you were planning on writing a long post about how Prince was so creatively strong and prolific in the 80s that he could just hand out amazing hit songs and still have plenty left, you can go ahead and start over.)

The LP version of this song is 9 minutes long, and the “Club Edit” is 6 minutes long, but the short, tight single version cannot be beat.

I like to imagine that Prince is singing this song, but you don’t have to.

P.S. The oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oooo after the first chorus has Prince all over it

P.P.S. Here’s a great performance from a German TV show. Sure it’s lip-synced, but would you really want to hear it live? (Sometime between an hour ago and now, Universal had YouTube take down a 25-year-old clip of Sheila E. lip-syncing “The Glamorous Life” on a German TV show. WHAT KIND OF SENSE DOES THAT MAKE?)

Prince even when is not the one singing, even when he just produced the thing does not want it to be on youtube ( meaning free of charge for the producer). Prince used to be a great artist and musician and the day he dropped Wendy & Lisa he became a great banker.

That makes sense. I had no idea his copyright-protection fingers reached that far!

I just chalk all that stuff up to artistic eccentricity, which Mr. Nelson has in spades.
