Now Looky Here Gal, Don’t You High-Head Me

Lester Flatt[Man, I have no idea how this happened, but I plumb forgot to publish July 23rd's post. I wrote the draft, put in on the imeem playlist and forgot about it. Whoops! I'm on the road in the AM, so enjoy the Whoo-fer Wednesday!]

Lester Flatt had the kind of talent that could only have been overshadowed by true, crazy-from-outer-space genius. He ended up spending most of his career in those sorts of shadows, playing alongside the inventor of bluegrass and the inventor of bluegrass banjo.

But the Blue Grass Boys owed a lot to Flatt’s sweet, clear voice, and once Flatt & Earl Scruggs left to form their own group, Flatt had the opportunity to show off his songwriting skills. So what if he didn’t get all the chicks?

Sometime I like to think this song is about raisins, but you don’t have to.
