You know you’ve made it as a band when you take over a word. Newscasters around the country can’t refer to “an unidentified slayer” without thousands of people in their living rooms throwing up devil horns and yelling “SLAYERRRR!!!”
When South Of Heaven came out, many of us were astonished at just how slow it was. Not many bands have two greatest albums that have two different sounds, but Slayer was hella on a roll in the late 80s.
There were at least a couple times that I chose to listen to this song on my friend’s loud, clean stereo system rather than go to class. (Which is why this is not a geology blog.)
I just love how this song builds. Bonus lyric points for referencing the legend that SLAYER stands for “Satan Laughs As You Eternally Rot.”
