‘Cause I Need You, Baby
Discovered this one via the Late Night Tales that Belle & Sebastian did. I’m a huge fan of the Late Night Tales (formerly Another Late Night) series, where artists make CD-length mixes meant for late-night listening (but suitable for any old time).
I’m a big fan of the mixes by B&S, Air, and Zero 7. I’ve heard the Four Tet is very good as well. [UPDATE (July 1): It's fantastic.]
This RJD2 track is a wonderful genre-spanning song, containing elements of hip-hop and electronic with a smooooth R&B vocal (whose origin I can’t seem to track down). [UPDATE: origin alert! see comments]
Originally it was a hidden track on RJD2’s 2002 album Deadringer, but reportedly there were sample-clearance issues and it was removed. Thankfully it was released again in 2006 as a single (vinyl/digital).
Ease in.
