Don’t Got To Worry, You’re Locked In Tight
I need to talk to you about an impending onslaught. Santogold is a lady, a band, a collaboration, and probably a summer.
You might have already heard plenty about Santogold, but then again maybe you don’t spend much time strapping on your waders and mucking your way through the world of bands, blogs, and other things with b’s. And why should you?
Your world is about to become Santogold-filled is because the album sounds kind of like a mixtape. Not a mixtape by someone with broad musical tastes, but a mixtape by a smart college girl who likes pop and pop-rock and pop hip-hop and pop music with an “ethnic” vibe. Also the college girl is cute.
Santogold achieved that sound mix by working with a bunch of different producers and whatnot, all of whom are on point right now (like Diplo, Switch, and Naeem from Spank Rock).
There really is something for most people to like on this album. I’m trying to listen to it a lot right now because I want to form my own mental images before every single one of these songs is a car commercial or a TV theme. (It’s beginning as I speak: I just this very second found out that there’s a “Bud Light” remix of today’s song. I’m not complaining — girl’s gotta make cash somehow with all these crumbums giving away music on blogs.)
So yeah. Good. This song’s probably the most mellow thing on the album, so hit her MySpace page or one of the places selling her music to sample the mix flavor.
