I Know It Can’t Be So, It Can’t Be Over

Dolly PartonDolly Parton is an angel on this earth, and Down From Dover is on the All-Star team for songs that make me cry. I figured Thursday is a good day to post it, because you’re probably feeling good that it’s almost the weekend. That gives me tomorrow to help you get over having listened to it. I’ll try to pick something good.

I believe this was first released on her 1969 album The Fairest Of Them All, but I have it on a great 2-disc compilation. I can’t seem to find any CD currently released that has this original version, and neither amazon nor itunes offer it for download. Maybe Dolly’s management should focus less on extracting $30 from people who want to access her website and focus more on making sure her music can be heard.

  1. I am ashamed to say that I used to think that listening to Parton was stupid and that it was ugly, that country music. I only liked her duet with Kenny Rogers , “Island In the Stream” for the obvious pop charm about it.
But I really discovered Dolly Parton with her first RCA album, that has the wonderful “The Bridge” on it.
She is much more than hair and… well, ya know.
I find her very touching in many of her lyrics. She knows…
    Thanks for this one too.

  2. We all have music we’ve ignored too long for the wrong reasons. For me, it was classic rock.

And thanks for the tip! I had never heard The Bridge, but now I have. And now I have to listen to that Plump DJs again to clear the lump in my throat.

  3. I got this one from a 2-disc collection called “I Will Always Love You” on CDR, but I can’t find anything like that on the net. The closest I see is “The Essential Dolly Parton”, which is guns-and-rosesed into two separate discs.

For me it’ll always be “Jolene”.
