Moving Like A Parallelogram

OK, so I’m going to name the self-referencing song category after the first track on Art Brut’s first album. [EDIT 7-24-08: Changed to "Mentioning Your Own Band" tag] Done and done. And oh yeah — hip-hop, you’re disqualified. Sorry.

Our first entry in this category is Motörhead. MotörheadIf you’re going to sing your own band name in a song, this is how you do it. First album, first track, song about a speed binge — your band name. Throw your band logo on the front of the album and you have a career. (Actually, practically not — read the troubled story of this album here.) Old people like me will tell you that this song was one Lemmy wrote for his previous band Hawkwind (he claims to have been fired for “doing the wrong drugs”). Believe it or not, the Hawkwind version was slower and spacier.

I guess maybe it technically isn’t the band name, since as far as I can tell, the song title has no rock umlaut. But give a brother a break, OK? I’m tired.

Motörhead – Motorhead from Motörhead or whatever greatest hits you choose (Hello Vegetables recommends No Remorse)
