At Least There’s Pretty Lights

When I realized what a truly amazing song this was (probably around the time I couldn’t get to sleep and was smelling the desperation), Colin James Hay, 1983I was listening to it several times a day. Then I discovered that there was an acoustic version of it by Men At Work’s singer (Colin Hay) available on some sort of Scrubs-related thing. I was excited to hear it, thinking that the solo-acoustic treatment would really shine a light on the song’s beauty and intensity.

Hey, I was wrong! Turns out the key to a lot of pop songs with dark lyrics is keeping them as pop arrangements. It doesn’t always improve a song to take out an acoustic guitar and use it to point at your lyrics. Let’s hear it for 1983, ladies and gentlemen!

  1. I actually prefer the acoustic version myself. Even though I very much like the full band version as well. BTW, theres actually a few acoustic versions of this floating around, each one a little different.

  2. Thanks for the tip — I’ll keep an ear out for them. As far as I’m concerned, the more versions the better.
