They Said That We Were Trash — Well The Name Is CRASS, Not Clash

CrassNo dewy-eyed reminiscence about the music of my high-school years would be complete without mentioning Crass.

Like some people remember particular sporting events, or romantic dates, I remember good trips to the record store. I can’t remember much about my life, but the memory of the day I bought Black Flag’s Damaged, The Circle Jerks’ Group Sex, and Crass’s Christ – The Album is startlingly vivid.

Anarchists, feminists, vegetarians, artists, and a band that actually did what they said. So many childhood heroes seem to fall to pieces — the members of Crass are still living the kind of life they espoused. I won’t wax on in more detail, but you can read a nice piece about them at allmusic.

The music might sound like nothing new or special today, but can you imagine what this sounded like in 1979?

Loved the Crass. Wish them luck. These days we have to forget “No WAR” – we have to fight for our freedoms – to prevent the Taleban hanging the CRASS.
