Jens Lekman

Jens Lekman is Swedish and great. You might love him right away, or maybe his earnestness and English will bother you until you learn to love him. Just let Jens into your heart.

He uses a lot of samples, sometimes in ways that don’t sound like samples. There’s a good interview here where he talks about how it was too expensive to clear a Steely Dan sample for the album so he got a guy who played with Steely Dan to recreate it. Also, apparently Jim Steinman samples are really expensive. Which I think is good, because I don’t want every Tom, Dick, and Kanye getting ahold of Mr. Steinman’s fine work. But Jens should get an exception.
