In The Warmth Of Sunlight, Between The Sand And Sea

Holy Moley I just heard this song for the first time yesterday and I loooove it. It’s from Don Ho’s first album (1965) and it features one of his backup singers.

The Don Ho ShowDidn’t seem right to credit Don Ho with it, but I couldn’t find the singer’s name online. I listened closely to the end of the previous track … did Don Ho just call her “Little Scrappy”? That can’t be right. Then, at the end of “Shells,” he calls her “Scrappy” again. Google “little scrappy.” Did you know there’s a rapper named Lil Scrappy? Google “little scrappy don ho.” Search tip: trying to eliminate rapper results by adding the word “ho” is a bad idea.

Eventually (the magic string was “scrappy hawaiian don ho”), I found this column from the Honolulu Star-Bulletin. Scrappy Chillingworth it is. Best name ever. If anyone has any more information on Scrappy, please email me.
